WHY:

  • November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

  • National Commemorative Candle Lighting is an annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA). Similar ceremonies will be held from coast to coast.

  • The incidence of Alzheimer’s Disease is escalating nationwide. It is estimated that more than
five million Americans have Alzheimer’s Disease, including one in ten aged 65 and older, and one in two aged 85 and older. This is expected to triple to 16 million by mid-century, especially with aging baby boomers.

  • The ceremony remembers both those who have passed away as a result of Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as honoring those families currently affected by it.

  • It is also intended to educate the public about the disease and raise awareness of community resources that provide direct care to families affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.

  • Alzheimer’s Disease is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.

‘S’ Generation Center Inc. is a medically-oriented recreational day center for older adults. Donations/fund raising dollars obtained through this event will provide matching funds to assist low-income families (caring for loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias) with respite care and caregiver support services.

The candle-lighting event is free and open to the public. We respectfully request a $20.00 donation for those who are able to join us for the wine-and-cheese reception.
